Cambridge 2-Alarm

Cambridge firefighters battled a 2-alarm fire just before 1am on Monday 1-30-2012. Upon their arrival, they found heavy fire showing from the rear porches of the 3 story apartment building. After initially knocking down the bulk of the fire, hot spots flared up again in the kitchen and also the roof of the rear porches, and it was believed the fire may spread into the cockloft of the building.

According to news reports, 4 firefighters were taken to the hospital after the aerial ladder they were working on struck overhead powerlines at the scene. No word on their conditions at this time, however it is believed that none of the injuries are serious.

8 residents were displaced by the fire and are now receiving assistance from the Red Cross to find temporary housing.

High Speed Hit and Run

State Police along with Weymouth and Braintree Fire Departments and Fallon EMS responded to the scene of a high and run accident on Rt 3 north just prior to the Union Street Rotary around 11pm on Monday night. Witnesses reported to police that a dark colored sedan was traveling well over 100mph prior to the accident and fled at a high rate of speed. Shortly after a description and partial license plate was given out to surround towns, Weymouth Police located the vehicle at the intersection of Main and West streets. They surrounded and stopped the vehicle with the assistance of State Police. The driver of the suspect vehicle was taken by ambulance from the scene to the hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. It is unclear if the vehicle on Rt 3 was in a previous accident which led to it getting struck by the speeding suspect. The driver of that vehicle was also taken by ambulance to the hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. State Police shut down all travel lanes of Rt. 3 north while crews worked to treat and transport the patient and remove the vehicle.

*All information reported is received through scanner transmissions and are unconfirmed at this time by State Police or Weymouth Police*

Onset 5 Alarm Fire from 3/29/10

This post is for @ofdresqtech. This fire broke out at an old Ocean Spray warehouse in Onset, MA on the night of March 29, 2010. I got the call after the fire was well underway, just as they struck the 5th alarm. I drove over an hour to check it out and was surprised to find the building was still fully involved. Here are some of the pictures from that night.

Brockton 2 Alarm Fire 1/6/2012

The Brockton Fire Department responded to a report of a fire in a triple decker on Johnson Ct Friday night around 9:30pm. Fire crews on scene found fire coming from a third floor apartment. A second alarm was struck for manpower to assist at the scene and cover Brockton's stations. Companies had trouble getting water on the fire due to overhead power lines causing accessibility issues with ladder trucks. Companies were on scene well after midnight checking for hotspots. The entire third floor was gutted by fire, while the first and second floors suffered extensive smoke and water damage. It is believed the fire may have started due to water splashing onto a pan of hot grease, but that report is unconfirmed at this time.
